Quartz heating elements provide short to medium wavelength radiation and can be the most preferred source of heat when a rapid heater response is needed.
They generally are used for fast response applications, where the product cycles are shorter than that of ceramic heaters, and several tool changes throughout the day are needed. These types of heating elements heat up and cool down in less than half the time of ceramic heaters
The quartz elements are comprised of a series of quartz tubes running parallel to each other within a highly reflective stainless steel housing. Each cell contains a coiled resistance wire available in various wattage and voltages—watt densities up to 30 w/sq. Inch (4.65 w/sq. cm) are available. The range of sizes and watt densities makes quartz emitters the preferred choice in zoning arrangements. Applications such as plastic thermoforming and vacuum forming sheet-fed processes with intricate heating patterns. They all need precise zone control, are small in size, and can easily be put in larger panels.
The quartz heating element is approximately the same size as our ceramic infrared heaters.
The use of quartz infrared heaters, including vacuum forming, thermoforming, curing, bonding and process heating applications.
An alternative to quartz heating elements is ceramic; they are slower to heat up, but as they are far, they are better at penetrating surfaces deeply. For more info on both options, read here.
