Choosing the right flexible heating mat

There are typically four different types of heating mats. One of the most popular is the silicone heater mat. The flexible material makes it ideal for those uneven surfaces, as it can bend 10mm. With an adhesive backing, the mat can run at a maximum temperature of 180°C, but without the backing, it can reach 200°C. At a minimum thickness of 0.8mm, you may need something thinner. Kapton heater mats can reach 260°C at a thickness of 0.15mm, while polyester reaches 120°C at 0.2mm thickness.

Another excellent choice is the mica heating pads. While they do not come with an adhesive backing and cannot bend like silicone, they can reach a far higher temperature, with a maximum operating temperature of 600°C.
