Do I need a Gas Interlock System?

A gas interlock system is an important safety device for commercial kitchens using gas appliances. It links the gas supply to the extraction system, helping ensure appliances only operate when adequate ventilation is available. If the extraction system fails or an unsafe condition is detected, the interlock can shut off the gas supply and activate audible and visual alarms.Gas interlock systems are commonly required for commercial kitchens such as restaurants, takeaways, cafés, hotels, pubs and schools, depending on the installation and applicable safety requirements. A Gas Safe registered engineer should assess the installation to confirm whether an interlock system is required.

How It Works

• Fan Current Monitoring: Built-in sensors continuously monitor the electrical current of canopy fans to verify operation. Differential Pressure Monitoring: The pressure differential in front of and behind the installed fans is measured via external pressure switches.
• Intelligent Control Panel: Processes input from fans and controls the gas solenoid valve.
• Set Points: Adjustable fan current set points ensure appliances only run with sufficient airflow.
• Automatic Shut-Off: If fan speed drops below the set threshold, the system cuts off the gas supply via solenoid valves.
• Safety Alarms: Provides both visual indicators and audible warnings to alert staff immediately.
