The Novus Modular PID is an amazing unit. Having come from a rework station PID (it was cheap and worked well for the past 7 years) to a decent new PID that I didn't have to work out hours into seconds and have a limited ramp rate with. Its amazing. It's self learning options seem to be comprehensive even though I have just used the simplest option. Its display is great and knowing how long each cycle has left is really good. I have only used it a few times so far setting up my new oven and one actual cure cycle for my carbon fibre work. It does all it should do and is informative.
Now the not so great part, but not bad or a deal breaker which could just be improved a little.
The APP...
Yes you can set up every aspect of the unit. You can set programs into the unit from the app too. But its not especially user friendly. I have found adding a program to the unit has also turned on the unit when all I wanted was to add a program. The ramp rate is great where you can set it to go from temp (A) to temp (B) in a set time. But it seems you need to have a start point (A) when initially you are working from ambient temp so the program needs to be set lower than ambient ( I have set mine to 0 degrees C) and you have to wait for the unit to reach ambient at the set ramp rate. I run 1 degree every 90 seconds so in winter that could be a 9 minute lag if the oven is at 6 degrees C or in summer it could be 45 minutes if it is at 30 degrees C ambient. It just means you need to adjust the start point for each program if you do not want to run the oven at 100% as it tries to catch up with the controller. Sending changes to the unit form your phone is one press on the phone but you are never sure if you have changed all the programs in the unit if you just make a quick program and up load it if you have not gone to the saved configuration and edited that before uploading. The app needs to have some work done and I am still getting used to it. But you do need to check any other cure cycle programs if you make any changes as it MIGHT change or delete them.
Overall I am very happy as the app side is just a small issue and once the oven has 6 or 7 programmed cure cycles for me I doubt those will change and the app will not really be used much at all.
